Hurtigruten

Hurtigruten, formally known as Norwegian Costal Voyages, are a destination-focused cruise line that offer an expedition cruising experience. Since 1893, Hurtigruten have been an integral part of the Norwegian costal life, carrying passengers, tourist and freight between cities and Islands.

Hurtigruten sail to destinations such as Norway, Greenland, and Antarctica on quaint ships, which enable guests to discover areas which aren’t common to tourists. Sailing to some of the most fascinating parts of the world, you can expect to be staring up in awe at the Northern Lights, enjoying the stunning curved landscape of the Fjords, or delving into the Drake Passage and down to the Antarctic Peninsula, where you will come close to some of the world’s most endangered species, including whales and penguins.

Hurtigruten are known as the greenest fleet in the world and lead the way when it comes to innovative technology. Each ship in the fleet is designed to make the most out of the scenery, with panoramic lounges for you to admire the passing landscape from.

Hurtigruten have an extensive collection of excursions, including horseback riding in Iceland, trekking in South America or bird watching in Antarctica. There is something for everyone with four excursions categories and physicality levels to choose from.  Onboard each ship, you will also find an expedition team who will enhance your experience through lectures, presentations and by joining you on shore excursions. All of the expedition teams have extensive knowledge of the destination and are trained in photography.

What’s New

In 2019, Hurtigruten welcomed the world’s first hybrid powered cruise ship, MS Roald Amundsen. The ship is the first of a new generation of greener Hurtigruten ships. The state-of-the-art vessel utilises battery power to help it cruise around the world. Its sister ship, the MS Fridtjof Nansen, is due to launch in 2020.

Hurtigruten will offer winter Norway Expedition and Northern Lights sailings from the Port of Dover in 2021-2022. These new expedition voyages offer unique highlights and destinations along the Norwegian Coast, with the added convenience of sailing from Dover.
