Victoria, the capital of a province whose license plates brazenly label it “The Best Place on Earth,” is a walkable, livable seaside city of fragrant gardens, waterfront paths, engaging museums, and beautifully restored 19th-century architecture. In summer, the Inner Harbour—Victoria’s social and cultural center—buzzes with visiting yachts, horse-and-carriage rides, street entertainers, and excursion boats heading out to visit pods of friendly local whales. Yes, it might be a bit touristy, but Victoria’s good looks, gracious pace, and manageable size are instantly beguiling, especially if you stand back to admire the mountains and ocean beyond. At the southern tip of Vancouver Island, Victoria dips slightly below the 49th parallel. That puts it farther south than most of Canada, giving it the mildest climate in the country, with virtually no snow and less than half the rain of Vancouver. The city’s geography, or at least its place names, can cause confusion. Just to clarify: the city of Victoria is on Vancouver Island (not Victoria Island). The city of Vancouver is on the British Columbia mainland, not on Vancouver Island. At any rate, that upstart city of Vancouver didn’t even exist in 1843 when Victoria, then called Fort Victoria, was founded as the westernmost trading post of the British-owned Hudson’s Bay Company. Victoria was the first European settlement on Vancouver Island, and in 1868 it became the capital of British Columbia. The British weren’t here alone, of course. The local First Nations people—the Songhees, the Saanich, and the Sooke—had already lived in the areas for thousands of years before anyone else arrived. Their art and culture are visible throughout southern Vancouver Island. You can see this in private and public galleries, in the totems at Thunderbird Park, in the striking collections at the Royal British Columbia Museum, and at the Quw’utsun’Cultural and Conference Centre in nearby Duncan. Spanish explorers were the first foreigners to explore the area, although they left little more than place names (Galiano Island and Cordova Bay, for example). The thousands of Chinese immigrants drawn by the gold rushes of the late 19th century had a much greater impact, founding Canada’s oldest Chinatown and adding an Asian influence that’s still quite pronounced in Victoria’s multicultural mix. Despite its role as the provincial capital, Victoria was largely eclipsed, economically, by Vancouver throughout the 20th century. This, as it turns out, was all to the good, helping to preserve Victoria’s historic downtown and keeping the city largely free of skyscrapers and highways. For much of the 20th century, Victoria was marketed to tourists as “The Most British City in Canada,” and it still has more than its share of Anglo-themed pubs, tea shops, and double-decker buses. These days, however, Victorians prefer to celebrate their combined indigenous, Asian, and European heritage, and the city’s stunning wilderness backdrop. Locals do often venture out for afternoon tea, but they’re just as likely to nosh on dim sum or tapas. Decades-old shops sell imported linens and tweeds, but newer upstarts offer local designs in hemp and organic cotton. And let’s not forget that fabric prevalent among locals: Gore-Tex. The outdoors is ever present here. You can hike, bike, kayak, sail, or whale-watch straight from the city center, and forests, beaches, offshore islands, and wilderness parklands lie just minutes away. A little farther afield, there’s surfing near Sooke, wine touring in the Cowichan Valley, and kayaking among the Gulf Islands.

The Sanctuary is a quiet, outdoor spot for you to escape to when you simply want to relax and ignore everything else for a little while. This area of the ship is all about health and wellness in a completely stress-free setting. It’s also adults-only, which only adds to the tranquil experience.
You’ll be able to enjoy the very best that the “Serenity Stewards” have to offer. The Serenity Stewards are expert staff on hand to attend to your every need. Whether it’s a refreshing bottle of Evian water or a chilled face towel, a steward will be able to provide it for you.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to services offered at The Sanctuary. Both singles and couples can enjoy a wide variety of massages in a private cabana setting, with offerings including Deep Tissue and Swedish massages.

The onboard Lotus Spa features a wide range of treatments designed to send travellers to a world of relaxation and harmony. The spa operates on an “a la carte” model, where each service can be booked separately. However, passengers can also opt to schedule a full day of service for themselves if they so desire.
One treatment that every passenger should consider trying is acupuncture. Most cruises in the fleet employ trained acupuncturists who are specialists in the art of locating the body’s pressure points. The system works by poking sterilised needles into these key areas, which in turn release pent up energy and reduce pain.
For something a little more traditional, how about a La Therapie HydraLift Facial? This treatment rejuvenates and refreshes the skin. There’s no better way to look your best for all the pictures you’re sure to be taking while onboard the ship.
Some passengers might instead be in search of a nice massage. The Lotus Spa enhances the massage with its Aroma Stone Therapy programme. By using the heat of the stones in combination with the enticing smells, this treatment relaxes the passenger while simultaneously releasing the stress and tension built up in the muscles.

The fitness centre offer a wide range of invigorating classes, including such popular options as cycling, Pilates, yoga, stretch, and abs classes. Among the more popular options are TRX Suspension Training- a revolutionary method of functional training using a suspension trainer and bodyweight exercises that originated with the U.S. Navy SEALS – and Body Sculpt Boot Camp, which is designed to be completed with only 1 dumbbell making the continuity from cruise to home easy. Body Sculpt participants can expect to burn up to 700 calories in the 40 minute class, and each receives a take-home poster/programme which outlines all the exercises and breaks the programme up into four manageable workouts.
Other advanced options available on many ships include one-on-one training and body composition analysis. The fitness centre also offers a range of complimentary classes and seminars including Detox for Health & Weight Loss and Relieving Back Pain and Improving Posture with Good Feet.

The multi-sport area on decks 18 and 19 is designed to offer a collection of fun options, including court games, lawn activities and even a lounge for virtual gaming. The Centre Court can be used for basketball, tennis, volleyball and badminton, while baseball fans can even practice their swing at the portable batting cage. Golfers will find a driving range facility, while the simulated laser shooting range offers a new onboard activity. The Game Lounge will offer a comfortable space to meet up for games, including table tennis and virtual gaming with Kinect systems.
The double-lane jogging track features separate paths for runners and walkers. In addition, a circuit programme with unique outdoor exercise stations makes it the perfect place for guests who want to burn a few extra calories or work on strength moves al fresco. This modern outdoor fitness equipment will offer a new option for those who wish to work out on deck and enjoy the sea air. The track area will be decorated with art picturing iconic global travel destinations, giving guests the opportunity to “run around the world.”

There’s an exciting toddler area, a mini air hockey table, great arts and crafts stations, plus a space for group activities like movie nights.Offering dance parties, movies and cartoons, along with ice cream and pizza parties, your little ones can enjoy T-shirt colouring, theme nights and getting creative with art projects.
Ages 8-12.
Offering games and activities like air hockey, skeeball, and video game stations – not to mention a dedicated lounge with a giant TV and arts and crafts tables. There are plenty of exciting activities for older kids to enjoy, including kids-only dinners, movies, PS2/PS3, Wii (and all the latest games), along with scavenger hunts, talent shows and sports tournaments. The Sanctuary
Looking to get away? There’s no doubt a cruise holiday can be the perfect way to escape from the stresses of the office. Life at sea is already relaxing, but those who want total peace and quiet will enjoy what The Sanctuary has to offer.
The Sanctuary is a quiet, outdoor spot for you to escape to when you simply want to relax and ignore everything else for a little while. This area of the ship is all about health and wellness in a completely stress-free setting. It’s also adults-only, which only adds to the tranquil experience.
You’ll be able to enjoy the very best that the “Serenity Stewards” have to offer. The Serenity Stewards are expert staff on hand to attend to your every need. Whether it’s a refreshing bottle of Evian water or a chilled face towel, a steward will be able to provide it for you.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to services offered at The Sanctuary. Both singles and couples can enjoy a wide variety of massages in a private cabana setting, with offerings including Deep Tissue and Swedish massages.
This is also the perfect place to grab a light snack or healthy beverage, as this area of the ship features a full menu of tasty treats for passengers to take advantage of.
Lotus Spa
Above all, a cruise vacation should be about relaxing – and what better way to do that than in a fully-stocked spa?
The onboard Lotus Spa features a wide range of treatments designed to send travellers to a world of relaxation and harmony. The spa operates on an “a la carte” model, where each service can be booked separately. However, passengers can also opt to schedule a full day of service for themselves if they so desire.
One treatment that every passenger should consider trying is acupuncture. Most cruises in the fleet employ trained acupuncturists who are specialists in the art of locating the body’s pressure points. The system works by poking sterilised needles into these key areas, which in turn release pent up energy and reduce pain.
For something a little more traditional, how about a La Therapie HydraLift Facial? This treatment rejuvenates and refreshes the skin. There’s no better way to look your best for all the pictures you’re sure to be taking while onboard the ship.
Some passengers might instead be in search of a nice massage. The Lotus Spa enhances the massage with its Aroma Stone Therapy programme. By using the heat of the stones in combination with the enticing smells, this treatment relaxes the passenger while simultaneously releasing the stress and tension built up in the muscles.
Fitness Centre
The fitness centre offer a wide range of invigorating classes, including such popular options as cycling, Pilates, yoga, stretch, and abs classes. Among the more popular options are TRX Suspension Training- a revolutionary method of functional training using a suspension trainer and bodyweight exercises that originated with the U.S. Navy SEALS – and Body Sculpt Boot Camp, which is designed to be completed with only 1 dumbbell making the continuity from cruise to home easy. Body Sculpt participants can expect to burn up to 700 calories in the 40 minute class, and each receives a take-home poster/programme which outlines all the exercises and breaks the programme up into four manageable workouts.
Other advanced options available on many ships include one-on-one training and body composition analysis. The fitness centre also offers a range of complimentary classes and seminars including Detox for Health & Weight Loss and Relieving Back Pain and Improving Posture with Good Feet.
Lawn Court
A putting green, bocce ball and croquet area available on the top deck.
Princess Sports Central
The multi-sport area on decks 18 and 19 is designed to offer a collection of fun options, including court games, lawn activities and even a lounge for virtual gaming. The Centre Court can be used for basketball, tennis, volleyball and badminton, while baseball fans can even practice their swing at the portable batting cage. Golfers will find a driving range facility, while the simulated laser shooting range offers a new onboard activity. The Game Lounge will offer a comfortable space to meet up for games, including table tennis and virtual gaming with Kinect systems.
The double-lane jogging track features separate paths for runners and walkers. In addition, a circuit programme with unique outdoor exercise stations makes it the perfect place for guests who want to burn a few extra calories or work on strength moves al fresco. This modern outdoor fitness equipment will offer a new option for those who wish to work out on deck and enjoy the sea air. The track area will be decorated with art picturing iconic global travel destinations, giving guests the opportunity to “run around the world.”
Freshwater Pools and Hot Tubs
Soak in a World of Relaxation
Take a dip in our sparkling freshwater pools and leave your everyday world behind. Unwind on a padded lounger and soak up the sun, catch up on reading, listen to music or dream of your next adventure on board or ashore. And what better way to relax and revitalise after a day exploring the world than a long soak in one of our whirling hot tubs. And don’t forget, there is always a server nearby to bring you a refreshing cocktail or favourite beverage.
Youth Centre
Ages 3-7.
There’s an exciting toddler area, a mini air hockey table, great arts and crafts stations, plus a space for group activities like movie nights.Offering dance parties, movies and cartoons, along with ice cream and pizza parties, your little ones can enjoy T-shirt colouring, theme nights and getting creative with art projects.
Ages 8-12.
Offering games and activities like air hockey, skeeball, and video game stations – not to mention a dedicated lounge with a giant TV and arts and crafts tables. There are plenty of exciting activities for older kids to enjoy, including kids-only dinners, movies, PS2/PS3, Wii (and all the latest games), along with scavenger hunts, talent shows and sports tournaments. California Science Centre workshops and junior chef@sea educational classes are also on offer.
Ages 13-17.
Featuring a new lounge area, perfect for meeting new friends, with skeeball, football, and great video games. In the teen-only exclusive lounges, junior cruisers can come and go as they please. Make new friends whilst enjoying PS2/PS3 and Wii games, football tables, sports competitions and late night movies. Take part in the shipboard Olympics, mocktail parties, DJ workshops, or check out the hot tub parties and formal dinners.
