OVERVIEWRiver Cruising

In contrast with the larger ports of an Ocean Cruise, River Cruises are enabled easy access to the heart of a destination; offering unique and authentic insight into a region’s culture. River ships are designed to make the most of the passing landscape, with most cabins being outward facing, featuring either a large window or balcony.

River cruises usually dock in the centre of towns and cities, giving you the time to explore a destination from its heart. Many of the ships also choose to dock overnight in order to give passengers the opportunity to experience destinations by night, as well as by day.

Many river cruises offer inclusive value, meaning your gratuities, excursions, wi-fi and drinks are all included in the package – in addition to the expected inclusion of food; the standard of which is excellent.

More and more river cruise operators are developing their ships for multi generational sailing too. For example, A-Rosa offer free cruises for children under 15 on all departures on every itinerary, with one child sailing free for every full-paying adult. They also offer flexible dining times, so families can eat whenever the restaurant is open, rather than at a fixed time. In addition to this flexibility, some River Cruise lines offer interconnecting cabins, bicycles to take out on shore and some have pool areas.

The rivers of the world are pathways into a vast array of geographical gems that can otherwise be difficult to access. River cruising enables authentic and hassle-free exploration of these wondrous inlets, whilst also providing a luxurious ship for you to return to after a day of discovery.
